First and foremost my pledge to you is my door shall always be open. I will not allow the demands of the job to marginalize the concerns of the members. Under my administration the members will always come first. Owners, contractors and government are all very important stakeholders in our industry, but they are not the first priority of a compassionate union leader. A committed leader listens to the people first and then takes care of business. A union is not just a business. It is a benevolent society of men and women who put service to one another above self interest. At the end of the day we are our Brothers and Sisters' keepers.
I will always conduct myself responsibly in the financial affairs of the Union. I will submit all expenditures to the membership for discussion and a democratic vote. I would welcome any member the opportunity to discuss or even inspect my own expenses incurred while on union business. This is a practice I started in my previous administration. All credit card receipts were audited monthly by the local lodge executive board. Now I am saying that any of you could have that opportunity if you wish. The foregoing is not intended as a criticism of any other administration past or present. It is my pledge to you, so that if I appear to be failing in this regard, you can hold my feet to the fire.
