For too many years now our Union and even some of the other Unions in the
Building trades community have allowed their commitment to organizing become
less of a priority than it once was.
I suspect this might be a consequence of perceived prosperity. We have all seen
more calls in the hall than members on a given day in the last ten years. At the same
time many of us had a long winter in 2010/2011. The non union and CLAC, have steadily increased their market share at our expense. The current construction boom
will eventually play out. How long do you think the Winters will be then?
With a renewed commitment to bottom up organizing, I think we can make a positive
difference to our collective. At the very least, we will be in the fight doing what our
forefathers did to create these Unions that we belong to today.
A vote for Dean Milton is a vote for the establishment of a full time organizing department at local lodge 146. The mission will be to organize the unorganized and increase market share and bargaining power for all 146 members.
