As I stated in the publication about Oilsands and the Wood Buffalo region
the construction boom will end some day. When it does the lifeblood of our
organization will come from maintenance and shop fabrication.
Alberta has a strong fabrication sector. The jobs provided in this area are
long term and can result in lifetime employment by those who choose this
field as a career. It is vital that we, as an organization, make this part of our
industry thrive and grow. Many of us in the field today started in the shops
and received an excellent education in the trade because of that opportunity.
My commitment to the shops is to work with the Stewards and committees to
provide the best representation possible. I will always respect the direction
set by the members on the floor and make every effort to achieve the best
possible agreements on your behalf.
In summary, let me say shop and field are two halves of the whole. Together
we create an organization that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Vote Dean Milton and open the door to a prosperous future in both shop
and field.
